I am decidedly passionate about the history of Florence. When I conduct a tour it is not possible to relate all of the wonders and inventions of this magical place without the risk of seeming a little bit exaggerated. In fact, there have been many times that people asked me, “Was this also invented in Florence?”.

The Loggia del Mercato Nuovo is located at the end of via Calimala on the way to Ponte Vecchio and it was built in 1550 to sell silk and precious items. During 1800 it changed its name into Straw Market because of the very famous straw hats. Nowadays it is a daily market for souvernir and sale of local products (especially leather).

The Cassone is a piece of furniture, perhaps it would be better to say THE Renaissance furniture.
Houses and palaces, depite the wealth of their inhabitants, were rather simple because they did not have many things to store and so furniture was very limited.
