Hotel Kursaal & Ausonia in Florence is located next to the Accademy Gallery

I realised that to say that our hotel is located in the city centre is not enough and since this is a very common question I learned to better specify. Now I say that we are no more than 10 minutes walk from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the main train station of Santa Maria Novella in the district of San Lorenzo.
To be really honest there are 2 places that are very close to us and that can be reached within 5 minutes walk: the Market of San Lorenzo with both the Leather Market and the Food Market (especially fruits, vegetables and meat) and then the Accademy Gallery.
The museum is very rich because of its collections of Medieval and Renaissance paintings (Perugino, Filippino Lippi, Botticelli, Andrea del Sarto ...), Russian icons, late XIX century plaster cases and even a room dedicated to musical instruments with a Stradivari violin. But despite all that it is known as the Museum of Michelangelo’s David.
The "Giant", as David was called because of his enormous size, arrived to the museum at the end of 1800 to protect it from the weather. Soon after other works by Michelangelo arrived: the Prisoners, St. Matthew and the Palestrina Pietà which has just been restored.
It 's a great place to compare the work of a young Michelangelo (he was 27 when he finished David) and the works of Michelangelo of the rest of his life.
If you want to focus your visit on the work of Michelangelo, you have to figure about 1 hour of time and we advise you to book tickets in advance to avoid long queues.
